Dinner is Served

I recently participated in an animation jam over at Encyclopedia Pictura with a bunch of very talented friends. The prompt for everyone was "Dinner Is Served". My idea was “what if your dinner ate YOU?”, and this is what I animated over the course of two days.

It’s all frame by frame in Quill, remeshed in Houdini, and lit and rendered in Blender. Music and sound design by Eric Shiboski.

Special thanks to Kat Bal, Hugo Shiboski, and Chris Rutledge for hosting.

Well Guy

Short looping frame-by-frame animation I made using Quill VR and Houdini. Every frame of animation was made by hand. Audio by Bobby Wagner, aka “Aptic”.

Animating in VR is incredible intuitive and rewarding — rather than traditional 3D workflows, which constrain you to a 2D monitor where you have to rotate your object/scene to see multiple perspectives, in VR you are actively working in 3D space.

Below is a little preview of the animation in VR:

Smear Frames

It’s also super easy with an app like Quill to make really fun, satisfying smear frames — you can take any of your in-betweens and pretty quickly smear and smush them around. Here are a few of my favorites from this animation.

Friends Holding Hands

Short looping frame-by-frame animation I made using Quill VR and Houdini. Every frame of animation was made by hand. This is what me and my friends look like when we get together. This one is a little sloppy, but was made as a quick one-hour sketch.

“This Film Was Made Without AI”

Short looping frame-by-frame animation I made using Quill VR and Houdini for Ori Peer’s “This Film Was Made Without AI” community project. Every frame of animation was made by hand.
