ADULT SWIM - RICK AND MORTY ID
Adult Swim reached out and commissioned me for two 15-second animated IDs, one for the premiere of their new show Smiling Friends and the other for the premiere of season 6 of Rick and Morty. For this one, I chose to model Rick and Morty and animate their heads blooming out of colorful flowers.
MUSIC & SOUND FX: Bobby Wagner (Aptic)
This animation aired on Adult Swim on Sunday, September 11th during the premiere of Season 6 Episode 2 of Rick and Morty.
Every part of this animation was made from scratch in Houdini and rendered out with Redshift using a USD workflow in Solaris.
- The characters’ heads were modeled using volume modeling.
- The flowers were procedurally built with a set of flower tools custom-made for this ID with the help of tutorials and project files from Paul Esteves, John Kunz, and Junichiro Horikawa.
- The smaller plants and mushrooms were all procedurally modeled and animated using a series of techniques I adapted from courses from Rich Nosworthy, Toadstorm, and Tim van Helsdingen.
- The grass was generated using Parker Coleman’s “EZ Grass” HDA that is available on his patreon.
